ProShot Touch Case vs. ProShot Dive Case

The only thing better than swimming around beautiful reefs teaming with marine life is being able to re-live your experience over and over again. Capturing your snorkel and dive excursions on camera means you’ll never forget your once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters, or the other amazing things you see underwater. With a ProShot phone case, you can turn your smartphone into an underwater camera. But which case is best for you?

In this article, we will break down all the features of both the ProShot Touch Case and ProShot Dive Case so you can determine which is best suited for your needs.

Phone Compatibility

One of the main differences between the ProShot Touch Case and the ProShot Dive Case is phone compatibility.

The ProShot Touch Case is available in various models and sizes, based on your smartphone model. For example, if you have an iPhone 12, you will need to purchase the iPhone 12 model. Each ProShot Touch Case is only compatible with the corresponding phone model, as it seals to fit it perfectly.

The ProShot Dive Case has universal compatibility, meaning it can be used with any iPhone model from the iPhone 6, to the SE, up to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The sliding insert has a spring loaded clamp and includes foam adjustment pieces to help secure your phone, regardless of the size.

Depth rating

The ProShot Touch Case is best suited for taking photos while snorkeling, swimming, surfing, or anytime you’ll be around water. It’s rated to a depth of 50 feet/15 meters, so you can even take it when diving, provided you aren’t going deeper than 15 meters. It can be used in salt and fresh water, and there is no time limit for how long it can be submerged, so you can stay underwater as long as you need to get that perfect shot.

The ProShot Dive Case is best suited for, you guessed it, diving! The case is rated for a depth of up to 130 feet/40 meters, which is perfect for capturing any dive excursion. You can use the ProShot Dive Case for either salt or fresh water, and there is also no limit to how long it can remain submerged, so you don’t need to worry about resurfacing early. Since you lose red light and color after 20 feet, you’ll want a red filter if you plan on diving deeper, which we will touch on later.

Ease of use/functionality

There is a slight difference in the use of the two ProShot phone cases.

The ProShot Touch Case has two different usage options. If you’re shooting photos above the water, such as when stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, or just floating around with friends, you can use your camera app as normal when your phone is inside the case. It’s touchscreen compatible, so just take photos and videos the same way you normally would.

You will need to use the free ProShotCase camera app when shooting underwater, as the touchscreen will not work when wet/underwater. When you open the app, it automatically converts the volume buttons to camera controls. Before going underwater, you will also need to turn on “Underwater Mode” in the app, which will then disable the touchscreen.

The ProShot Dive Case is not touchscreen compatible, so you won’t be able to take photos or videos using your camera app once your phone is inside the case. You will have to use the ProShotCase camera app to take any pictures with your iPhone, whether above or below water. But the app is very straightforward to use and even has a “Sleep” mode built in, so it doesn’t waste battery life when you aren’t taking photos.

When you put your phone into the ProShot Dive case, you need to make sure that the (+) and (-) buttons on the exterior of the case's sliding insert match up with the volume up and down buttons on the iPhone; otherwise, you won’t be able to control it properly. You also won’t have access to your charging port or audio jack when in the case. One other thing to note is that you must open the ProShotCase app before you put your phone into the case, since you won’t be able to use the touchscreen once it’s secured inside.

Protection

If you take your iPhone out into the open water or 130 feet below, you need to ensure it’s protected. The last thing you want is a water leakage ruining your $1000 phone! The ProShot Touch Case and ProShot Dive Case have undergone rigorous testing procedures to ensure they are entirely leak-proof and keep your iPhone safe and dry. Both cases have reliable hard shells with sturdy clips that seal the case and secure your phone.

Proper installation of your phone into the case will help ensure it’s fully protected. For the Touch Case, you’ll need to attach the black sliding insert onto your phone, ensuring that the clips fit over the front of the screen and the sides are lined up correctly. Then you can slide it into the case and secure it with the end cap, which will make a clicking sound to let you know it’s correctly installed.

With the Dive Case, you’ll also need to insert your phone into the sliding black insert, but as it’s a universal case, there are a few more steps to ensure it’s properly installed. Once you line up your phone’s volume buttons to the (+) and (-) controls on the sliding insert, you may need to use the foam adjustment pieces to secure the phone if it’s a smaller size. There is a spring-loaded clamp where your iPhone will attach. Then slide the insert into the case and secure it with the blue clips on each side.

We are so confident that our cases will protect your iPhone that we include a 1-year iPhone Protection Guarantee with every ProShotCase. That means if your case leaks due to a manufacturing defect, causing damage to your iPhone, we will cover the repair or replacement of your iPhone. You can find out more about our coverage here.

Extras

Both the ProShot Touch Case and ProShot Dive Case come with some extra accessories included. These include a floating hand grip, wrist strap, and travel case. The floating hand grip ensures that if you drop your case, it will float back up to the surface, and the wrist strap will secure it to you, so you won’t lose it. The travel case can hold your phone case plus accessories to ensure you don’t lose or damage them. Both of the cases are also compatible with GoPro mounts.

In addition to the extras that come with the cases, you can also purchase additional accessories like a floating tripod, chest mount, and extendable pole mount. The ProShot Dive Case can also support red filters (available in a three-pack), which help bring red color back into your photos and videos when you’re diving below 15 feet.

ProShot Touch Case vs. ProShot Dive Case

So, which case is better, the ProShot Touch Case or ProShot Dive Case? Well, the answer is – it depends! If you want to use your iPhone to take photos and videos while diving, freediving, or snorkeling, then the ProShot Dive Case will be the best bet. Plus, it’s universally compatible, so you can keep using it even when you change phones. If you want a more versatile case that you can use both above and below water, then the ProShot Touch Case will be a better option since you can use it for watersports, beach days, and snorkeling.
